The SDS/HCI Landscape: Future Outlook
March 15, 2017
This quote totally applies to many developments in our industry. For instance, think about the mobile, workspace, data center
and cloud computing developments over the past 10 years and try to imagine what is next for the next 5-10 years. How will this affect people, businesses and societies. Think about the opportunities and possibilities with IoT, Machine Learning, VR/AR, 3D printing, drones and robots in healthcare, education, factories, businesses and governments. It is an amazing time to be in the middle of the technology industry and great to understand what the developments will mean for you, our customers, friends and family and most importantly apply the knowledge to make the world a better place now and in the future.
There are many great things happening in the IT industry - one of the most significant topics is about SDS and HCI.
Just a couple of questions:
- Do you have a view what the current state of Software Defined Storage and Hyperconverged Infrastructure is?
- Do you want to get a glimpse of the future outlook of the SDS/HCI space?
Herman Rutten did a great job sharing his view on the industry with key vendors in this space such as Atlantis, Dell/EMC, Nutanix, VMware, HPE/Simplivity, the complete report can be downloaded for free.
The whitepaper covers an overview of the developments and product releases of the main SDS/HCI vendors. There is a high pace of innovation happening in the SDS/HCI space, including five updates on Atlantis USX and Atlantis HyperScale as we add features to our solutions. One example of Atlantis innovation is the strong integration of Citrix Director with Atlantis USX and Atlantis HyperScale delivered in the December release last year. We also have the announcement at Citrix summit earlier in 2017 to deliver the industry 1st workspace appliance together with strategic partners HPE and Citrix leveraging Citrix Cloud, XenServer, XenApp and XenDesktop to create a shared storage platform build on HPE Edgeline Appliances.
Another highlight of the whitepaper is the detailed feature descriptions that are included. Herman shares his view on compelling new features introduced for the first time as well as other features being widely adopted by the SDS/HCI vendors.
Here's a summary of those features:
“Sell the problem you solve, not the product.” We drive features and functions to our valued Atlantis customers and partners based upon customer problems. You can see how Atlantis compares to others in the industry. Some examples why customers use Atlantis in smaller (150) and large (120,000 CCU) environments: All-flash composition, bare-metal platform support, cost-effective ROBO solution, broad server hardware support with leading vendors Dell and HPE and full-stack integration with Citrix are leading functions in our solution today.
Atlantis boasts the flexibility to use purpose build appliances (HCI) and intelligent software (SDS) which can be seamlessly integrate in the current customer environment. Another is the ability to optimize, extend and augment current SAN/NAS and use Hyperconverged architectures leveraging commodity servers and local storage such as NVMe, SSD, RAM or HDD to create a flexible, high performance and reliable storage platform. Given the strong adoption with Office365, Windows10, public cloud (DaaS/IaaS) and the adoption of containers, customers want a solution that is flexible, cost effective, reliable, delivering high performance and fits in their current on-premises infrastructure and is ready for their public-cloud initiatives.
As the SDS/HCI market gains momentum, SDS/HCI solutions cover a broad innovation spectrum and include more use cases for SDS/HCI that trigger adoption. When looking at the WhatMatrix platform scores, Atlantis, HPE/SimpliVity, Nutanix, and Dell/VMware have the most extensive platforms. The complete report can be downloaded for free.
